ELPG continues to lead Edinburgh's property market

A group of Edinburgh’s leading property solicitors has cemented its dominant role in the Capital after revealing it again accounted for more than a quarter of all house sales registered by the ESPC.

The Edinburgh and Lothians Property Group (ELPG) retained its market share throughout 2008 despite the well-recorded significant downturn in the property market and the departure of two member firms.

The group, which consists of Warners, Neilsons, Drummond Miller, Leslie Deans & Company and The Lints Partnership, was set up in 2002 with the aim of strengthening the members’ position as the main players in the Edinburgh and Lothians property scene.

The ELPG achieved the same market share in 2008 as in 2007, despite the group numbering five firms rather than the seven it had in previous years.

John Lints, of Lints Partnership, said: “I am very happy the ELPG has retained its market share and we have cemented our position as the leading group of property solicitors in Edinburgh.

“This has undoubtedly been a challenging year but as a group we have proven we hold a very strong and trusted position within the marketplace.”

The members all feature within the top 5% in the ESPC’s top performing property solicitors in terms of Edinburgh property sales.

In addition, the five member firms all feature in the list of the ESPC’s top 10 solicitors in terms of total property registrations in 2008.

Leslie Deans, Senior Partner at Leslie Deans & Co, said: “I am absolutely delighted with the fact that we still sell over a quarter of the properties sold in Edinburgh.

“We give our clients a value for money, high-quality service they can rely on in a challenging time. We always go that extra mile.

“The ELPG guide which we produce is a great tool to market properties. Individual solicitors simply don’t have the means to do that and it allows properties to be marketed far more widely.

“I am confident we can hold onto our market share into 2009 and even increase it with the opening of our Haddington property shop and an upturn in the market.”

The ELPG sold a total of 1524 properties in 2008 – accounting for more than one in four sales made in the ESPC, which includes over 200 firms.
