After the great success of the 2008 event, Trump International Golf Club & Residences (TIPR) located in scenic Rio Grande, will once again host the prestigious Puerto Rico Open, an official PGA Tour event, from March 9 - 15, 2009.
Featuring a unique and challenging course layout as well as a picturesque backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean and El Yunque rainforest, TIPR is a breathtaking setting ideal for hosting such an important tournament. After undergoing $2.8 million in improvements, today TIPR is the only golf course in Puerto Rico that meets the rigorous standards needed to host a PGA Tour event.
“It is an honor to host the Puerto Rico Open for the second time,” says Donald J. Trump, President and Chairman, The Trump Organization. “My golf courses are known for being the best, and hosting the Open is proof of that. This event will be a tremendous success, and I look forward to welcoming the world’s best players to Puerto Rico.”
“We are very excited to be hosting the second Puerto Rico Open,” states Eric Trump, Executive Vice President of Development and Acquisitions, who is actively involved in the project. “We know the PGA is very selective when choosing the courses for the tour and we feel privileged that they have selected our Golf Club for the tournament.”
“The first tournament last March was so successful and we expect it to continue growing every year,” states development partner Jorge L. Diaz of Empresas Diaz. In March 2008, TIPR hosted the first Puerto Rico Open and welcomed a grand audience of 75,000 people, exceeding even the most aggressive estimates. “We look forward to welcoming the PGA players as well as golf enthusiast and spectators who will attend in March.”
Trump International Golf Club & Residences features two breathtaking 18-hole courses, Championship and International, which were designed by PGA legend and course architect Tom Kite. Each course provides a truly distinct experience and an impressive landscape. The Championship Course begins among lakes and follows to the ocean while the International Course runs through hills and sits on the green mangroves for the final nine. The course also holds the title of “Best Golf Course of Puerto Rico” awarded by the American Academy of Hospitality Services, an organization that awards excellence in the luxury travel industry.
